Today was such a great time.
I took a co-worker out to fish for Pinks, and do some crabbing. It is always fun to fish with people who don't EVER fish. She was so excited to do this. I dropped 4 pots in the usual places. This time I attached my Hero 3 Go Pro, and hoped for the best on no leakage! After dropping pots, I immediately set her up with some salad shrimp to fish for flounder. I told her the second it hits the bottom... fish on. Right on cue, boom. She reeled up a Sand Dab. She thought that was awesome, lol.
So we dropped in the "Humpy Kit" White flasher/Pink hootchie... A little while later her rod goes off. She caught her first salmon. Then we had a double. I'm holding pressure on mine, and netted hers with the other hand. Then she nets mine. The Pinks died down a bit after that, but we were kind of watching porpoises, birds, etc.
Went back and pulled up pots, had 2 limits of dungies. A few that were quite large 7.5" Tons of undersized females. Go Pro camera survived. Just watched the video. Very cool! I know everyone has seen these crabbing videos now, so nothing new really. It is cool to have a view into that other world down there. Besides tons of flounder, saw a few dogfish, and saw something I've never caught/seen before. There was a lot of what looks like a smaller version of surf perch. They were only the size of the palm of your hand, but very colorful on the video.
So, my assessment of the Shilshole/Carkeek area right now is.. that we definitely saw Pinks jumping. Didn't really fish it very hard, and put 3 in the boat. Late start on the water as well. Fish caught at 50' on the wire.
There out there. (-:
