At last someone is finally trying to make an effort of cleaning up the mess at Wenas Lake Resort. After years of neglect the cafe/tackle shop is closed and from talking with the man that had just taken over, He says the restaurant will never be opened again. He does plan to have a tackle shop there and yes there still is a small fee(1 buck per person) for driving down the east side of the lake. Unlike the previous owners he swears the fee will go to cleanup projects, and rebuilding the docks. He said eventually the fee will stop. Upon arriving at the lake, the first thing I saw was that the lake was about 15 feet low. You can still launch boats there I recommend a 4x4 since there is no real launch available, and yes to launch a boat you have to pay the fee. We started fishing around 10.30am drifting worms as the breeze pushed us along. caught several small trout this way, so we decided to use lures to try to catch something bigger. After about 3 hours of fishing we ended up catching a numerous amount of fish, quite a few German browns the biggest around 13 inches which were all turned loose. We did keep a couple of the Triploids that were between 1.5 to 2 lbs. The lures that we used were f5,-f7 flatfish in metallic silver/blue, and gold hot shots size35-50.
