Sunday, second day fishing out of Sekiu, wind picking up, ground swell 4 to 5 feet with wind waves increasing, white caps occasionally. Fishing was slower than Saturday. Nothing caught long lining with sink tip fly lines. All fish hit lines set at 35' to 55' on down rigger. Tried closer to shore east of Slip Point, nothing. Went back out a couple miles where the majority of fishing boats were. Action was sporadic. A couple of 14" fish did not even break the line free from the down rigger clips.
Sunday we fished a trolling rod with 12" green flasher followed by green/pearl tube fly. Our other rig was a fly rod with a sinking line and Wiggle Fin Action Disc and tandem bucktailing fly. The hot colored flies of Saturday were not well received by the salmon. Sunday they wanted blue/green colored flies. We only fished until mid-day. The results were similar to Saturday with smaller 3 to 4 pound fish. As the water got rougher we decided to troll in. We hit a school of larger coho a mile out from the "Caves" as we were heading in. The biggest fish of the trip was caught on flasher with green tube fly at this location. We did circle around and go back through the area. We hooked another good fish but lost it before we could see it.
This was my first trip to Sekiu. It is a great place to fish. If you don't have a boat you can rent one there. I will return. Thanks to Paul J. for the introduction to Sekiu coho fishing.
