My last day of vacation and one more fishing adventure. Met up with Robbie at Edmonds at 8am (someone overslept, LOL). We trolled from the Marina down to the Oil Docks using the same gear and techniques as yesterday. Funny thing, there were about three times as many boats in the area as there were yesterday, wonder why?
We saw a few nets here and there, and got two, each off deeper rods at around 60-80 feet. Same cookie-cutter 3-4 pound fish. Both caught on a red flasher and magnum green glow hoochie with herring strip. Both trolling south, with the incoming tide.
Since the action wasn’t red hot and the water was so calm I decided to run us up to Possession and show Robbie this area. We fished the far northwest side of the bar in 90 to 300 feet of water, working on and off the drop off. The fish finder was jammed with fish. Also, there were a huge amount of birds on the water, always a good sign. We got a fair number of shakers but eventually caught our final two fish, at 80 feet on the red flasher and at 90 feet on a holographic green 8” flasher with green magnum glow hoochie. Both our fish came trolling north, against the tide. Limits at 11:15am, another great day on Puget Sound.
When I gutted the fish at the end of the day I was amazed at the number of herring the Possession fish had in their tummies – one had six fish! They are in a feeding frenzy out there and there seems to be plenty of bait for them to eat.
As a bonus, we had a humpback whale surfacing around us, something I have never seen before – very cool!
If Edmonds is a bit slow, Possession is definitely worth a run over to check out.
