Very Incredible Weekend! Great experience, insanely fast deckhands and the charter put us on the fish constantly.
Been planning to go out to Westport with the guys from work for a couple of months and that day finally came. Weather was good, and rained a little in the morning and was overcast the rest of the day. After an hour and a half burn to the first spot, we were on the fish immediately. After a few rock bass, I landed the first ling. The fishing only continued as I hit another ling, a cabezon and multiple hook-ups of rock bass. All the guys caught tons of fish and a couple of cool species mixed in. The canary rock fish were hearty and beautifully colored. Every single one was released with a cool drop and release system Capt. Kevin uses on all no keeper fish. Overall we caught our limit of seabass (110), 11 lings, 1 cabezon, multiple other species and 3 times guys had massive fish on and were unable to keep them on the line. One was most likely a halibut the way it was fighting.
All the guys had a blast with only 3 of the 11 getting sick. One of which fished an hour then spent the rest of the time in the cabin with his hoodie over his eyes trying to sleep. Non fisherman, I tell ya. LOL.
The deck hand and was fast and efficient about everything he did. The guy could fillet 5 fish a minute with very minimal flesh loss. The boat is family operated with even the captain's wife bringing us cookies in the morning to start our day.
We will all be back soon.
