I took our boys swimming and just "had" to bring my pole. I waded in my shorts and found a deeper spot along the bank where they swim. I was using a 1/8 oz gold blue fox spinner and plunking in differing spots. Where my boys were swimming, I could see a nice deep spot that ran into some bushes. I was above the hole and let my spinner drift under some of the branches. As soon as I lifted my rod- BAMM! Not like Emeril from the food network Bam but BAMM! FISH ON! The first run I could tell this guy had some size to him. The fish was stripping some line and doubling my rod in a half circle. I was using 4 pound test so I had to tire him a little. The fish tried to get tangled in the stumbs and logs, but I got him into the shallow part of the river. I finally landed him. It was probably a good 17/18 inch cutt. He was released. Good day. Tough dealing with all the swimmers and rafters and dogs but there are some good spots that likely hold some good fish. Gold seems to be the best color. A few other dads that just happened to have their poles didn't fare too well. One dad said he caught a 10 inch bow using a worm and bobber set up. I smiled when I walked past him knowing my fish was bigger.
