I went fishing at the Carbon with my son today. He broke his pole. So he went off taking pictures and I fished. It was pretty slow and I was snagging a lot of bottom fish (rocks). Then I was thinkin’ “I am tried of snagging!” Wow it is a fish! Thank you, Jesus! It jumped and I have a new reel so I had to adjust the drag and play it a little. I was surprised with a fish that I have never caught before and didn’t know what it was. It was jumping. Pretty exciting. It seemed to weight a lot when I brought it out of the water A couple of guys thought it was a Silver (I knew it wasn’t) and then another said Steelhead. No one was positive. Although we only seen 5 people all day at the spot where I go. So I had my son take a picture as we left the river so that it had plenty of light to show others to find out for sure what it was. My friend said it was a Steelhead so I suspected it was but I was fishing for Silvers. Didn’t even know there were Steelhead in the Carbon. Therefore my punch card has hatchery Steelhead 10-13 #802. My sons both thought it was good eating but I like the Silver I caught on the 1st better. As of today I can say “I have caught Steelhead.”
Oh yes I caught it on a red corky with chartreuse yarn 1/0 red hook. Another guy caught Silver on a silver spinner with a red body. Besides dying pinks these were the only fish I saw. The river was in great color.
