I fished the north fork of the Toutle River from 5 to 6:40 pm. I was about half a mile below the fish rearing facility, or whatever that big dam looking thing is. Everybody I saw leaving when I arrived had at least one fish; all hatchery cohos, since chinook are off limits. I saw a party of five who each had their two fish limit. I would say of those ten fish though, about eight of them were way too dark to keep even for smoking in my opinion.
In any case I eventually found a pretty nice spot. A pretty big salmoniod took my offering of a green corky after about a dozen casts. I fought it for about a minute before it doubled back throwing my gear back at me trying to make me blind (that's a quote from oneshot, you'd have to watch his Nisqually River video to truly appreciate it). I did get a good look at the fish, it was large, but had already turned. I saw no action for the remainder of the evening.
I'll try to make it back next weekend for longer than an hour and forty minutes. If you're looking for coho action (although most of them seem to be completely turned) the Toutle seems to be the place to be.
