This afternoon, Steve Foley (WDFW biologist) gave me the results of the scale sample tests on the big cutthroat. This fish was seven years old and entered the lake after spending two years in it's natal stream. He spawned at age five, six, and would have spawned again this winter if not for a certain Coyote spoon. His first growth spurt was at age five at 20 inches. The largest growth spurt was at age seven when he appeared to have changed to a steady diet of Yellow Perch. Steve believes the odds of another cutthroat the likes of "Walter" are very slim.
