Great day at the river. landed quite a few colored kings before I got my limit. Kept one about 2 lbs and another about twelve pounds. A few coho came up with the rain. A friend of mine got one as big as my king.

Sweet pics. Thats a nice king, most of the fish that I have seen from the Samish seem to run a little dark. Do you usually have to weed through a lot of darker fish before you catch a nice bright one like that? I have only been to the Samish a couple of times and all the fish I caught were darker than I wanted to keep.

This time of year is a little tougher to catch bright ones. But with the coho showing up its still worth it. The rain helps bring some fresh kings in.
I start fishing the samish about mid july. I normally dont see a dark fish till september. i've got some nice ones in mid october. Dont think you have to fish next to 500
fisherman to get a good fish 80% of them fish the first 5 miles of river. lots river up stream plenty open holes. New rules too your line has to be moving at all times
no bottom fishing. Thanks mallard83 good luck.

can you take a sled in that river?
carl

You could, and it would be fun, but it is narrow, and a tidal river.
I always thought a 12 foot jon with a pump would be perfect. But its
very accessible by foot and easy to move hole to hole. Stealth is key on
this tiny river
