Though I almost religiously throw drift gear..I'm not at all surprised that a spoon worked out for you but for some reason I personally have the worst luck with spoons when I fish for winter steelies...what gives??!?! haha. I was wondering if you might say more about the conditions of the river? How was the visibility? How high was the water given all this precipitation lately? Info appreciated

12/27/2008 8:46:00 AMWell the water was a nice green color flowing at about 2000 could see the bottom in the soft water in about 4 feet of water . Fished there the week before and the river was at 3000 and a dark olive color maybe 1 foot of visibitly and the wind was brutal.

12/29/2008 12:26:00 PMNice job, Spoons are very effective for Steelhead on the Snoqualmie. I've been steelhead fishing on the Snoqualmie for over 30 years and caught alot of fish using spoons. There's a few spots that are very good for spoons. Work em slow bouncing the bottom along cut banks or Tail outs. Get rid of the treble hooks and put a single siwash on. If you know where the Buffalo hole is try em there along the rocks. I caught six fish i one day one spoons there. That was about 15 years ago .

1/1/2009 9:56:00 AMWell I'm sure he does have Steelhead envy as for lazy not sure about that but yes he is an ass. I always remove the treble hooks and put a single siwash on, plus there are a lot of rivers where non buoyant lures can't have trebles. My friend and I used to do quite well with spoons at another river and always had 3 or 4 with us whenever we went fishing but just stopped using them and this the only one I had in my vest. I went out the next day and bought six more and now have 4 in vest. just need the rivers to cooperate.

1/2/2009 8:14:00 AMIt's all good. I like gold, copper or crome with red or orange stripe on it. I've caught em on metalic blue and green also. Spoons work very well in clear water. Big Natives like spoons and Spinners. bait is prohibited on lots of rivers in march and april for the natives so break out the hardwear.
