Hit the Kalama for my first steelhead attempt...me and my buddy were first timers on this river so we planned on just checking the whole thing out and seeing what the holes were like.

About 20min in we are fishing our first hole near this bridge early on the river and I hooked up with a 13lbs Native...IT WAS AWESOME...never caught a steelhead before so it was a blast...made 4 more stops along the river and ended up hookin up two more (saw them jump clear out) and my buddy hooked 3 and landed one...a 10lbs hatchery...all in all a great way to spend 3-4 hours on what ended up being a very nice day...pic to come later.

When I used to live in the sound area I would drive all the way down there for that great little river. It was my favorite river west of the cascades then the Carbon a close second.

Not too sound mean or anything but natives are not supposed too leave the water. Really nice fish though, good job on the first steelhead!

Crazy, we can't carefully lift a native Steelhead from the water and get a nice picture before gently releasing it, but the Indians can net the peninsula rivers during Febuary,March and April killing as many natives as they can get. Guides over there are almost as bad. They take paying customers out and kill natives as well. Sorry, but some things need to be said and heard. Great job on your Kalama River Native. I love the Kalama. I've caught alot of Steelhead and Salmon from it over the years.

Crankbait...that pic was like 1 second...it was probably out of the water for more time while it was jumping than me taking that pic....you will notice its not a perfect angle or anything just snapped with a phone then hook out and on its way...but yeah I probably shouldn't have taken it out

Nice first steelhead. Smashmouth quit cryin about natives net fishing. They were here on this continent before any other race. They earned their right to fish the way they want.

Very nice first steelie man! My first was only a little 5 pound 4 ounce hatchery lol, I hope to fish this river soon, I just heard about it and it sounds promising. I have still only caught 1 steelhead so far and I'm looking forward to catching my second, Do you know how far it is from the lynnwood area?
