Fished the river yesterday after the lost lake trip. The rivers went down a lot in the last week which to me that means we should start caching more fish, but they're just not interested in anything I throw. I've tried it all: rooster tails, panther martains, blue fox, spoons, even trout jigs under a bobber, still no fish out of the cedar for me not even a white fish. I think i'm gunna have to get my fly rod out. I just don't have any idea what flies to use. Any suggestions for a newbie with a fly rod?

I fly fish this river every year, very dissapointed this year, nothing but small trout, last year i did awesome. Saw the game warden ticketing a couple guys for fishing with barbed hooks also, as tempting as it is to use them with the way the fishing is, its just not worth it right. Well i have pretty good luck with any fly with a nice shiny bead, that should work for you.

Duraboat, don't give on spinners, just try Fish Creek Spinners!

Send my your address and I'll send you a fish catcher. Ask they guy that started the 'whats the best spinner thread in the Trout forum. He is now catching fish after telling a very similar tale to yours.

All those spinners you were trying I use myself, and I have caught some nice trout out of there. I wouldn't give up on those. Just try another spot or try fishing earlier in the morning.

i'm not giving up on the spinners just trying somthing else hey fishreekspinners i would love to try your spinners my back yard is a great test ground for new spinners and things of the sort i thinki the flood this year realy has a lot to do with the low numbers of fish beeing caught.but its still early inthe season so we'll just have to keep our lines tight

Just cruising this site, and saw this comments ...

Those fish in the Cedar are meat eaters ... I use big, dark Muddler type flies and Scud like presentations. The little guys will hit a dry, yet the bigger fish are looking for a meal.
