Launched the boat at Davis Rd ramp at 7:00am and headed straight up Davis Creek to play with the Pike. One other boat was at the mouth casting spinner baits and they had been there since first light with no action. My buddy was casting plugs of every color and size, while I worked spinner baits and senkos. We started at the mouth and worked our way up 1.5 miles casting our arms off. On our way back out of the creek I watched an 18 inch Pike come out of the trees after my senko but I got excited an ripped it out of his mouth. The water temp was 65 in the creek and 62 in the river. We also fished a 2 mile stretch of the river with all the above and even drifted bait for awhile without one single strike. We talked with 7 boats and only one boat picked up a 51/2 lb LM but no sight of any Pike. It was a long, long, long day on the water. LOL!

The weather didn't play as much of a factor in Idaho pike fishing. We killed them over there. Not literally, we c&r'd all but a couple of small ones. I think the water levels changing in the POR is what is making them hard to find. When the water was up, I had 7 pike on the line. The next week it was down and I only managed one. I see the water level seems to be comming back up a little. That info comes from the Pend Oreille PUD website.

Happy fishing

schatzi and AJ's Dad....I got your emails and I do appreciate your advice. I spoke to a couple of old timers at the USK store and they recommended Davis Creek. They said a 21lb and 23lb Pike were caught in Davis Creek last Tuesday. What a difference a few days makes on this river. The water was at the high water mark so I dont think depth was the factor. I am planning on going back Saturday morning and fishing upstream towards Newport. Maybe it will be my day?
