All you need to fish in this river is up to 4 of the tiny weights (depending on how deep it is) and a hook thats it, the more basic the more you will catch.

Ok so we had like a sudden fishing trip week end and we decided it would be up in walla walla. well we fished for about 5 hours with no luck but we were having fun. When the campground guide/cashier guy came and asked if we had caught anything we frustratingly said no and him with a surprised look on his face had asked what we were using. we had originally been using fish eggs and power bait, he said that was our problem we HAVE to use worms he had said using worms he will guarantee when we start fishing we will have one in 10 mins, and surprisingly enough we had one in 7 thats the first wopper of the day but not the last we ended up catching a whole lot small ones but nothing that was OMG big but we had not caught fish in Washington since we moved there in 2002 so it had been awhile. Well the next day we decided we would try the surrounding area and try our luck, once again lots of little's no biggies. Well we went back to the same place as the day before and i caught this MONSTER sucker which who the hell cares about a sucker but in the same place i had also caught a 12 inch brown trout which was very tasty (no pics sorry).

SIDE NOTE
This is a selective tackle area meaning NO barbs on hooks (i used a dremel) and only single hooks NO trihooks over all please call the local fish and wildlife location to figure out exactly the rules for the area, Washington is VERY restrictive when it comes to there fishing so please don't just go fishing and hope you dont get caught its not worth the FINES!

interesting you mention that side note of yours seeing as how you were using fish eggs, powerbait, and worms...

selective gear prohibits all use of bait. artificial flies and lures only.

I did state and i quote myself "please call the local fish and wildlife location to figure out exactly the rules for the area" well when i called and asked they said worms and eggs were ok.

My uncle has several hundred acres along the Touchet about five miles north of the township of Touchet. I have caught numerous Smallies and few Steelhead in the fall, esp after the first good rainfall after a long dry season as soon as the water rises.

What area where you fishing I have yet to catch a Brown near that neck of the river.

Hey if you have a smoker or access to one, next time you catch a sucker fish smoke it up, they are great eatin! Some of the fondest memories of growing up in the north woods is the spring sucker fish runs on every little trickle. When we got home from school the entire neighborhood boys would get on our bikes and peddle like hell down to the creek with our landing nets and gunnie sacks. We would have a blast taking turns on the nets and or driving the fish into them, more than once I broke landing nets that had too many fish in trying to lift them out of the water. We would head back home with two gunnie sacks full of fish and could barely stay on our bikes. Once sucker season started our smoker would run 24/7 for a couple weeks. Cheers, eat fish and live long!
