I took this young man out on his first pike fishing trip 3 weeks ago and got him his first ever pike, a 5lber. He is now hooked. He went a couple of days ago with an aunt and uncle and they got a couple of pike fishing the Pend Oreille River. Today I took him back to the Pend Oreille. Within the first 5 minutes, 7 casts to be exact he hooked his new personal best. a 9lb 4oz 32" pike. On the day we landed 5 pike, the two best being his 9+ and my 8lber, and one LMB that went 4lb 7oz. all fish were caught on spinnerbaits in about 6 or 7 feet of water. The fish were holding tight to the weedbeds. We found nothing on the flats next to the beds. we saw a ton of LMB and SMB on the flats but couldn't get them to bite. The one bass I got was in deep weed cover. Other than my new this year MinnKota trolling motor going out on me, we had a pretty good day. We lost the motor in the first half hour of the day but were still able to use the breeze and current to our advantage and move around and still catch a few fish. Congrats on the new personal best fish Scott. Stick with it, I'll make a fishermen out of you yet. Happy fishing.

The fish on the left was caught about a half mile south of the bridge at Usk and was caught on a black and orange spinner bait made by the Gone Fishin Lure Company. The fish on the left was caught about 2 miles north of the launch at Cusick, on a red and black spinnerbait. Like I said in the post, these fish were holding very tight to the weedbeds. There is a lot of good looking water up there right now but we found nothing that was not right on the edge of the weedbeds. I believe a good finesse bass fisherman could really fill a nice bag right now. I put the one 4lb+ bass in the boat but we saw likely 40 to 50 others throughout the day that were at least as big if not bigger. Be carefull if you go up there. The water is very shallow and there are a lot of places that could easily ground a boat, even out in the middle of the river. Happy Fishing.

I have seen some references to the tackly by Gone Fishin Lure Company but cannot find them anywhere. Where can you find their tackle at? I have tried an internet search on the company and cannot find anything.

AJ's DAD...Thanks for the invite I wish I could have made it. Looks like you did okay. It's funny to me how many fish are caught on black spinner baits. I am completely on the other side of the color spectrum using whites, silvers and blues. LOL! We are still picking up fish and yes the bass are hitting the right rubber if you want to finesse them a bit. Have a good one!

Brian, The Gone Fishin lure company does not have the website up and running yet but he can be reached at gonefishinlures@live.com . If you email him he can hook you up. I just asked for some spinnerbaits in the colors I liked and had him put some big thumping colorado blades on them. we also use a chartruse trailer and a trailer hook. It's too easy to miss them without the trailer. Scott it would be nice to fish together some day and see how the "Black -vs- White" dual would turn out. I had some good luck up there early in the year on combinations of white as well. Good luck to all, Happy Fishing
