Are you on the east side of the freeway in the spot that you can see the bridge? or are you up around the corner? I was fishing the spot that you can see from the freeway (parked under bridge) caught and released 10 decent looking humpies before my reel broke (hard to catch fish without a handle on your reel) it has slowed down there but there are still some clean looking humpies and slowly seeing more silvers.

i was down by the farmers field from 1pm to 6pm. I caught 10 humpies. 7 in the mouth. Was using dick nites and then switched to yarn n corkies, which resulted in my snags. I got one nice hen humpie, which is sitting in my freezer now. The rest were kind of sketchy so i let them go.

Ended up leaving early due to the group of 10 people who took my spot while i was tying a new gear on.

I was taught a little secret that catches almost all hens. I was told to keep it to myself, so I will, as the more I fish with Rodger the more interesting things I have learned. When Rodger told me the trick I thought it sounded kinda, well fishy... didn't think it would make a difference but after several fishing trips and hundreds of humpy I seem to catch about 8-9 out of 10 are hens and for some reason they always seem to be the best looking. The guy next to me the other day just kept shaking his head, he said he only wanted the hens but every time he had a fish in the mouth it was big ugly and had the huge hump. when he would bring in a hen it would be a snag, and he would throw it back. Almost every fish I caught was a clean fresh looking hen. The occasional snag was usually a male, but when I brought them in and was a hen it was always in the mouth. The simplest things can make all the difference in the world. By the way I normally will let people know my tricks but I was told to keep this one secret. If you see me down there watch the fish I bring in, it will make you scratch your head. Have fun fishing!!!!!!!!!

The place we were fishing is off the I-5 - I think these are the directions -

Driving Directions:
I-5 Exit 208, go east .75 mi, Left on 27th Ave NE, follow to end.

Anyway you turn left at the Smoke Signal cigarette shop and follow to the end. I like that gravel bar because there is ALWAYS plenty of room to fish. The river narrows and is deeper by the big rock, and that seems to be a good spot. But if you go left, the river gets slower and sandy, and that is where you can almost pick up a humpie by hand. There are spawned out ones all over the banks.

However, I did see Silvers jumping. You can definitely tell the difference just by eyeballing them.

Got my share of pinks this year and now am targeting Silvers. No luck so far. Am waiting for rain.

My other favorite place is off Boe Road in Stanwood, more downstream. Thousands of Silvers jumping, but not biting. So if you know any tricks, that is the place to catch them.

I think Curado is doing well with the Silvers, maybe I'll start following that guy around. (JK)

sorry for the double post, when I came back to my computer I refreshed the page and for some reason it posted my previous post again. Anyways since I am writing again, I will mention that you will like the spot below the bridge much better. It is the spot that you see people fishing as you drive north bound on I-5, you park below the freeway bridge. There are a lot of people fishing most of the time, but the better fishing holes tend to be that way, if it is easily accessible. But give it a try it is better then the spot you mentioned (we called that spot big rock when I was a teenager, people would party there all the time). I would like to try that spot off boe road you talked about. Sounds like the silvers have been in there for a while now so I keep thinking there should be more up in the spot that I usually fish. I like that spot due to the regulars who have all got to know each other and that makes for good fishing even during times that the bite is off. Have fun fishing!!!!!!!

The Silvers have been at the Boe Road ramp for about 2 weeks, and there are millions of them. It's a very spectacular sight. But they are NOT biting, even for the river guide boats. I saw ONE caught there.

My son and I took a trip up to Oso, don't know if you are familiar with the place, but there were lots of salmon spawning there, and lots of Coho and big Kings. So they are moving up the river, but not in large numbers just yet. I'm thinking we need a little rain.

As far as the other fishermen, everyone I've met so far has been just great. Yesterday at Big Rock, there was a chick with a baby in a carrier, and wow, she could cast clear across the river. Lots of fun talking to folks and getting tips.

took a look at that boe rd boat launch.... not much room to fish and it looked like the silvers may have moved up river a bit because I didn't see many jumping, saw more jumping at the other spots up river that had cars parked along the river. Drove along the river all the way up to the spot under freeway and didn't see much being caught. I fished under freeway for about 45 min and caught and released 5 humpy and lost 3 but still no silvers seen.Hope they get there soon.
