This report is for Barrier Dam on the Cowlitz. I threw everything today. I found a spot along the shore with a little bit of wading up to my knees. There were 5 guys in the hole I was fishing and about 10 people fishing off the rocks by the spillway. I started off with my hot lure of late Blue Fox size 4 silver blade and chartreuse body. Fish were jumping all over the place, mostly boot Kings with nice mix of Chrome Silvers. I lost my lure after 3 casts. and another, and another. I tried a dick nite, well that was gone on my first cast. I had trouble finding the right weight to use without getting hung up. I switched over to corky and yarn. I lost a lot of gear in 5 hours. I pre-tied about 20 leaders, but that was going fast. All morning I felt zero fish. I was very frustrated leaving, but I do know what to use to get the fish to bite. Whoever says fish don't bite in the rivers are FOS. I seen over 15 large silvers caught using a specific bait and they were all in the mouth. This was my first time fishing here, I will be back. Per one of the locals fishing along the rocks who left with 2 silvers said the weekends are a mad house and if you are not there early, be prepared for elbow to elbow. Does anyone know how to get to that little island in front of the spillway with out a boat? I think you can wade to it, but I don't know where to start to get there. 4 guys were having a field day catching fish from there...

Jens when I've been there. someone has always taken people out to the island. I have never seen anyone wade to it. all I have ever done there is loose gear too. what is the secret bait if you don't want to tell here PM me

Kinghunter and I are going to go there saturday. If you guys want to go pm me. I will try and duplicate what the people along the rocks were doing, if it works, i'll post up. I never said what I saw was a secret lol. but I never said what I saw...

Hope you do well. I've fished the Barrier dam a few times and had good luck on corkies and yarn. I use very little weight because of all the gear I've lost. Good luck!

Thanks Big smooth, I am a sponge learning to fish these rivers. I was skunked on the Lewis earlier, came back after watching someone else catch and did well, seen what the people were catching on the rocks were using, so I hope we do well. Where you fishing near the spillway? or further by the boat launch. I didn't venture that far down, but plan on it this weekend..I like to use little weights as well, but the people who were hooking into fish were casting pretty much to that island..
