I ve been waiting for this time all winter, spring and almost up to present. Finally the water is reaching the temperature that the bait fish are moving into the shallows. And right behind them come the predators, the walleye, bass and tigers. In spite of the wind which made boat control a constant chore, the magic of taking walleye in shallow water came through. I've taken a number in 30', 40' 50' and deeper waters, the fight is diminished probably because of the pressure changes. But an 'eye in the shallows is usually a scrappy brute. Along in the predator pack were some sizeable bass, all making the day a plus. I've not taken a tiger this year but maybe soon. I've caught them in the shallows before and they're downright nasty and full of teeth. I usually release all of my fish, rarely keeping any. It was the same this day, and I had spectators observing, whole families there were mama sans, papa sans and baby sans probably seeking' to take all big or little (I think they probably target crappie and bluegills). Any way as I released about a half a dozen decent Bass I'd hear a chorus ohhhhh!!!! from the bank, kinda made my day. So here its one of my favorite times, crank baits in the shallows. The promise of better days to come.. So fisher brethren catch a lot, take some if you need to but release the brood stock. keepin' the faith, an old Vietnam Vet home at last.
