My friend and I decided to give the lake a go for some early season trout fishing. Being that he has a cabin on the east side of the lake, we fished off of the dock the whole time. The water was rather cloudy looking and very cold still (around 38). I'm not sure when the ice had melted, but guessing from the cold water, I would say around a month or less. Anyway, we tried the usual power bait rigs and got not even a bite. We fished deep and shallow without getting any results. I tried a worm and bobber in the mornings when the water was still, but no luck. A few fish had jumped once in a while, but I would say that it was kind of dead. The trollers didn't do much better. One guy had fished for three hours in the afternoon and only got one 15 incher. Most caught nothing from what I could tell. I did manage to get a single strike from a Mepp's spinner I had tried. That was about it for two whole days of fishing. I suspect that it will greatly improve in a few weeks as the wate!
r clears and warms up.
