My 7 year old son and I headed out to the river after he got out of school to see if we could find some fish. We launched at Lewis street and headed down river to one of my favorite holes but the water is still a bit high for that spot. We made a few drifts through a few areas to no avail. Upriver we went. We ended up in another spot I like to fish when the water is up. First drift through the slot I told my son that this was a good area and to be ready. He was ready when the 9# buck grabbed his eggs and set the hook. After a very good ten minute battle that included at least 8 acrobatic displays and a couple of good runs he got it to the net. I was excited to say the least, because this was his first 100% unasisted summer run. I missed one other bite while we were out but it didn't matter. I will be back out friday with my brother to see if we can find a few more.
