Went to the Wallace river with my brother inlaw and my brother and my dad after spending an hour and seeing no fish at the duwamish. We saw fish, not thick at the hatchery and worked our way downstream. No bites, but the water was REALLY low. I guess it's normal to be that low, but there is no holding water between the hatchery and the freeway besides two holes and some dark spots under the bank. The fish were spread really thin, and were skittish from all the folks stomping through the water near the edge. But at the hole under the bridge there were a bunch of guys fishing on the south side of the river, the wrong side to drift it properly. There were a few fish evident, but they were casting spinners over the fish. Fished that hole for an hour with nothing. Then we climbed to the top of the bridge and saw what there was in the hole, the very bottom was filled with about 15 - 20 bright coho, but they were spooked like crazy. Anytime a lure would come close to them, the fish would edge away from it, but they were corner in the deepest part of the pool, being harrassed on all sides. People were casting over them but not getting deep enough to even touch the fish and there was no way that the fish would volunatrily take a lure at that point they were so freaked out in the crystal clear water. I tried to tell them that the fish were spooked and to stop casting for about ten minutes and there would be plenty of fish to go around, but they kept at it. We went downstream where my brother in law hooked a king with his fly rod but his knot came undone, which was fine. Slow day after the peninsula with a river filled to the brim with fish.
