Yesterday I got nothing but spotted a place that seemed to be a good holding ground for fish. So I went back this morning for the 2nd time. I wend down to the river from the northwestnorth end of the Hwy 202 bridge near the Gardner Weeks Park in North Bend. It's a very awkward spot under the bridge, not enough space for backcasting. And the water is too deep for wading, so I just stood on the rocks by the river and cast across the water. For about an hour, I got nothing, but then I found the mosquito pattern was very appealing to the fish and there is a fishing hole not far away downstream. In about 8 casts, I hooked up 4 fish, 2 got away during the fight, 2 were landed successfully, an 8-incher and a 10-incher. I can't tell what kind of fish are they, but I'd like to think they're trout. :-) And I also like to think I caught 4 fish today if it weren't for the Selective Gear Rule. :-) To me, this is a triumph!

When the dry fly landed on the water, it floated on the water alright. But when I started to mend the line, the tippet was always also affected and thus the fly moved a bit on the water, then it started to sink. I have no way to keep it on the water but using it as a streamer. I let the water take the line out and the fly sank to the bottom, then I started stop-and-go 6-inch retrieve. There is a pool about 40 or 50 feet downstream, I caught all my fish from there.

I don't think either are browns. One looks like a cutt maybe (the first) and second a 'bow but they could both be rainbows/both be cutts/ one of each, etc. I can't tell specifically other than cutt or rainbow. IMO. As for floating the fly, there are lots of types of fly floatants (spray on, rub on goo, etc) you can put on the fly and even the leader if you want. Except putting on the leader can lead to leader shy fish. Pretty pair of fish! Nice to see that 2nd one is nice and fat. If you can afford to and fish are hooked lightly, I'd personally C&R on flies on the forks of Snoq (I liked fishing mid fork years ago) but hey if you wanna eat them and regs allow then go right ahead :-) Thanx for the report!

The one on the right is a coastal cutt, the one on the left a juvenile rainbow, IMO, they can be really pretty in the river. Nice fish, I've always loved fishing for those guys on light tackle.

Looks like a cutt or char / smolt bulltrout on the left and a baby native steely or raibow on right, either way nice! Back they go amigo!

Number two is a cutthroat. Everyone calling number one a rainbow is on crack. Not sure what that fish is, but def not a rainbow.

Correction........I agree with tpursell, the one on the right is a cutt (spots, very close together by the tail) not a rainbow/steely smolt like I thought. I also agree with natetreat,the one on the left might be a native rainbow or char?

Man if that is a rainbow...it is unlike any rainbow I have seen. On my screen it looks to have a green tint...which I would assume would sow a nice stripe or remnant of a stripe on the side. The spots look too big to me too...Plus it looks like the jaw is weird. That is a fish I have not caught before...but hey, there is a lot of people saying its a bow. Maybe its a bow afterall....lol. On second glance, do the fins have an orange tint to them on the bottom of the fish there? Juvenile Cutt is my best guess, but if Nate says its a bow its prob a bow!
