Interesting fish! They both have huge mouths for being in the rainbow family, they look like they have some cuttthroat in their genes.

@ Ryan (baconlover) - I see you're from Bellingham and might not be familiar with Spokane River regulations. Spokane River from Upriver Dam to Idaho border is selective gear rules and C&R only (all game fish)... unless you were being tricky w/ Casey.

@ casey - Nice looking fish; Thanks for sharing the report and pics. I might need to take a look-see at that area; Are anglers allowed to park at Sullivan Park and "wade" out into the Spokane from there?

@ Jay K , thats where I have been parking at, I haven't tried fly fishing there yet Im pretty new to fly fishing lol,
I'm betting it would be good too, plenty of ripples and rapids to fish at! I have fished all the way from the sullivan bridge to the railroad bridge seems to be good all thru there
watch out on the rocks really mossy

is a red band trout an actual species or did you just make that one up? :)

@GritStomper - From wiki- Redband can be synonymous with rainbow trout, but also used to delineate inland sub-species with well-known geographical distributions in the US such as Oncorhynchus mykiss gairdnerii or Oncorhynchus mykiss stonei or Oncorhynchus mykiss newberrii. I've heard there's a club of flyfishermen who try to foster protection of the Spokane River's "native" redband trout.

there are signs posted all along the river that show the redband native trout, that's how I was able to figure out what it was lol

Hey guys,

I just joined with basic service today. Can you tell me how to post on this site? I don't see anywhere to add a new post.

Thanks!

A true redband is usually 10'' at maturity. A cutbow will have two red-orange slashes at bottom of mouth. Your fish could be a cutthroat.
If you guys are serious about the Spokane River, release the fish you catch. When I first started fishing the river it was nearly fished out, just a thought.
