Hit a few spots on the Spokane today. Started out at Sullivan and had a few take a look at a black bugger but no takes. There were a few olive caddis and mayflies in the air but no major hatches. I was hoping to see some October caddis but no luck. I tried several dry patterns although nothing was raising and after about 2hrs we headed to Marabou Park where we only stayed a short while as the better rifts were out further and we were not fishing wet.
3pm- we hit the south side of Plantes Ferry park and found a nice eddy with a few seams and finally saw fish rising. The caddis patterns failed to bring any strikes so I went to #14 olive dunn and released three fish in less than an hour. I am about 95% they were land-locked chinook (see pic). The mouth and gums were black and after looking at some pics on the internet I am pretty confident. They fought very hard for 12-14 inch fish. I usually fish around the gun club and was very surprised to finally release one.
I also managed to pull a 12in rainbow towards the end of the day using a hot butt olive caddis.
The weather was outstanding and the fishing was good considering I have had many outings on the Spokane with no hook-ups at all
