Fished the stilly today(Tues), saw a couple coho caught, one real nice one, chrome and maybe 17lbs. I hooked one coho and got to fight it for about 30 seconds until it leaped into the air and spit my hook out on the way back into the water. That was on a 50/50 dick nite tiny(size 0), the water is very clear so you need to use the smaller dick nites, but that smallest size dick nite has such a small weak hook, that it was straightened way to easy. I switched to a size 1 and landed a chum that was about 10 pounds. Released the chum unharmed. The guy fishing down from me caught a chum and I was surprised how long it was taking to get the hook out once he landed it....he asked if I had pliers, so I brought them down to him. As I am asking about if he pinced his barb, the hook comes out of the fishes lip and into his finger. DEEP in his finger. He tried to get the hook out(of his finger) using the needle noose pliers several times and gave up, the barb was doing it's job. He cut the hook off at the eye and said he was going to need to have a doctor remove it. He gathered his stuff up and asked me if I had any of the green and chrome dick nites(that's what he just caught the chum with) I didn't have that same one, so he gives me one of those ones, plus the green and brass. all while he stands there with a hook still barried in his finger....it looked pretty bad even though it is a small hook, the majority of it was in his finger, and not just under the skin...but DEEP....Let's all be careful out there.
