Fished the PO River down stream from Oldtown Launch Friday and Saterday. Got a lot of bites and caught 3 fish total. My buddy Mikey and I fished for 2 hours or more trying to catch Smallmouth with no bites then we switched over to pike and I got 2 fish on Friday. We were doing the dead bait under slip bobbers as well as casting swimbaits. I got my first fish on a swimbait, it was not a big one but not a hh either. About an hour later I got another fish on the bait. It was just a little smaller then the first fish. I had about 4 bites on the bait /bobber rig Mikey had a bite but no fish to show.
Saturday I was back with my neighbor Dennis, We only fished for Pike that day. We both had some good bites but only got one small fish on the day that I got on bait again.
Had no fish and no fallows that I saw on any of the swimbaits and plugs we threw. WE got about 4 to 5 bites each on the day, but poor ol Dennis had that really bad skunky smell on the way home. :) All in all for the end of January I can't complain to catch any fish this time of year is good.
On Saturday we saw a nice fish come up and roll right at the back of the boat. I didnt get a good look at it, but Micheal said it was 10+ pounds, so we found fish, and they were somewhat willing to bite. All the bites and fish were caught in about 11 to 15 ft of water. Water temps were a chilly 36.5 on Fri. and 36.9 on Sat. Hope to go out a few more times this week maybe with some nerw friends.
