WOOOOOOO! Got my 1st steelhead! Went out to the Hoh last friday. Long drive, but not as long the drive to the Snake! I just started targeting Steel this season, so I didn't really know what I was doin'. All I know is a few weeks ago I went with a guide and I completly coppied his set up. I used the pre tied leader about 4 feet, two egg loop hooks and a corky. I went with a more experienced friend of mine, and the first hole we pulled up to, I was ready! He then suggested we do some more scouting before we commited! I'm like, what's wrong with this hole? He says trust me. So we doubled back to another spot on the river and he says this is the one! We gear up, him with his spey rod, me with gear. We walk out and he finds a nice run where he says they should be holdin.....I throw some eggs on, and my first cast I got a snag! I broke it off, but still had my weight and swivel. So I re-tie, and move down a bit. Next cast, just kind of feelin out the bottom of this run. One more cast....fish on! My homie comes runnin' down to see my prize, and it's a nice chrome hen! 1st steely ever....it was a native, so back she went. It was the only fish caught that day...thanks to my boy for showin me what's up....
