Went to the sammamish river sunday to see if I couldnt catch a few nice fish. Got there around 5:30. I started from the entrance to marymoor park under a bridge and I was off on the pontoon boat. I trolled with a rainbow trout kastmaster and also a bobber with a power eggs weighed down(it has worked before). I got a fish on around 10 min after I took off. It was a fat cutthroat, but got off on the side of the boat. It would have been the biggest one I had caught there by far. trolleed for a few more minutes and caught a small cutthroat, around 8". Trolled for another 25 minutes with no luck. When it was time to go in, thats when the trip went bad. I was trying to kick in with my flippers towards the bank when the current took me outward to the other side. My pole snagged hard on a log when I wasnt paying attention, it was gone before I could get a hand on it. And to top it all of I dropped my phone in there two. It is was it is I guess. I ended up being able to get to shore to the next bank clearing. The whole time my mom was shouting t me to paddle harder which added to my frusteration alot. I might try this again without my mom, but I think from now on out it will just for lakes. I am gonna try pine lake or beaver lake with it on opening day. Full Stringers!

A couple of safety tips - If you take a pontoon boat in a river, you need to have an anchor system. Second, ditch the flippers and use the oars. Good to hear you made it out ok.

FYI - Selective gear rules means barbless and no bait. Power eggs are considered bait. See the forum topic: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/yaf_postst12307_REMINDER---using-bait-when-fishing.aspx

You lost your pole and your phone?! And I thought losing my stringer and a lure was bad (see Beaver Lake report). Good for you for saying "It is what it is". It can be very hard to not let that stuff get to you. Lessons learned for the next time. Tight lines.

The pontoon that fullstringer has is more like a float tube w/2 pontoon sides.

It would be okay for lake but not in moving water using fins
Fullstringer if your going to fish Samammish River/slough -- stick to lures, flies and make sure it has single barbless hooks.

Im suprised there isnt more reports on this river because there is a good amount of cutthroat trout, bass, perch, squawfish, and a few bluegill.

As G-Man pointed out, single hooks, barbless, no bait or scent. Thanks for the report.

I would normally delete posts which indicate rules violations but it's been pointed out and makes for a good reminder and "teachable moment"

Beaver Lake is a year round lake. Enjoy it now and on opening day.

Um, isn't the slough closed until June 1st? Single barbless or not?
RIVERS, STREAMS, AND
BEAVER PONDS that do not drain
into Puget Sound or the Strait of Juan de
Fuca are open to fishing for game fish
(except Doly Varden /Bul Trout and
GRASS CARP) the first Saturday in June - October 31st

Outfishin7, the slough is open Jan 1 to Aug 31. Not sure why they picked those dates as one could "inadvertently" target young and old salmon/steelhead. And with the warm water temps in the summer, any slamon/trout species caught will most likely die after being released.
