Got to spend a day of fishing for the "infamous" Pend OReille river pike with Craig Dowdy of Yankin Jaw Guide Service. The conditions were less than ideal but better than I could hope for as we left Spokane in a drizzle and arrived to partly sunny (as in pacthes of blue) skies. All day the weather shifted from lightening and warming up to dark and riany, but except for one outburst really it wasn't that bad. OK, enough weather reporting, how was the fishing?

Pretty good, not red hot, but consistant enough to feel like we had chances to be catching fish. We found fish at several different sloughs, but one in particular held the lion's share of the fish for us. Aaron, Craig, and myself cast spoons, spinners, and jointed minnows. The fat spoons (sorry I forget their name) by far was the most effective, although the last fish of the day I caught on a jointed white minnow and it just SLAMMED it! Wow, pretty impressive hit! Water temps ranged 48-56 degrees, depending on the slough.

We ended up catching 6 and lost another 4-5 fish, so like I said, not on fire but pretty darn entertaining and we brought home some fish to eat. They all ran in that hammer-handler range of 22-26".

Thanks to Craig for taking us out and showing this fun fishery and yes, video to follow...

Looks like a fun trip. Is that your first Washington northern?
Is the water clearing up or still have a lot of runoff? Thanks for the info
