Went out on the 25th from the Mt. Vernon boat launch to the right to the fork in the river. We had three in the boat so my dads cousin and I used spoons, copper fst and pink wicked willie. My dad used sand shrimp with pink spin and glow and right away he was getting nibbles. These salmon are experts at not getting hooked up. Eventually after an hour of watching the pole getting nibbles a nice big one hooked up and we got it in the boat. Almost the instant the pole was back in the water my dad started getting nibbles so I switched to a orange spin and glow with sand shrimp and the fish wouldn't touch it. My dad got another fish. I went back to pink wicked willie and had something huge peel out line like crazy. I could hardly get it out of my pole holder and couldn't do anything but hold on and it got off without a splash so hard to tell what it was. Later in the afternoon the bite had died off and was hot so we moved up river and found some shade and I got 3 on with a green wicked willie but all 3 came off. In the end we ended up with 5 which is not bad but together we had 12-15 on and lost them.

Here are some tips. We catch a lot of our fish on the pink wicked willie and if the pink is not working go to green wicked willie. Also a wells special is highly effective, its a brass spoon sold at Holiday Market in Burlington. Sand shrimp is consistant but the salmon tend to just nibble and usually steal the shrimp but is effective with patience.

Good report. Looks like you had a great day on the river. With all of those lost strikes, may I suggest: Loosen up that drag. Make sure the fish can take line when the fish wants to. You'l l have more fun playing the fish. Keep the tip up and don't give any slack. Be especially careful when you remove the rod from the holder about giving slack. Better yet, keep the pole in your hands and you won't be as likely to miss that bite. Remember, pinks have a soft mouth, so don't give a hard hook set that rips the hook out. I'll be looking forward to your next report.

Where can you get wicked willies? I've been lookin' but I can't find them. Do they have it at Holiday sports or Wholesale Sports?
