My wife and I are new to WA and have been eager to catch our first salmon since we arrived 2 weeks ago. We moved from Detroit. Yesterday we hit the Puyallup nice and early before it got too crowded and managed to catch two Pinks. The first one flopped away just as we were attempting to net the sucker. Too bad, it was a nice big male. The second one was successfully landed, a nice 21" female Pink. Our first salmon! It seemed to slow down after 8:30. A few Pinks were being caught every half hour or hour.
We were there from about 6:30 to 10:45. I am still new to fishing in rivers and with long leaders so I spent a lot of time undoing snags and arguing with the trees that kept grabbing my line when i tried casting.
We used pink corkies and pink yarn. The one fish we landed was caught with some dark green yarn mixed in with the pink.
Thanks to all the guys who have been patient with us newcomers and have been helping us find our way in new fishing territory.
