Well, today I filled in my second catch record card. Was pretty epic on the carbon.
I fished from 10 am to 3 pm and there were fish spread throughout the river, lots of pinks and a few chinook. The pinks were starting to get lazy, not the feisty buggers you catch in the lower Puyallup, but darn were they persistent. At one point I had my line dangling in the water while I unwrapped a twist from around the tip of my rod and a feisty little hen ran out from under her log and nipped my corky as it dangled.
If the water were clear, it would look like pirannah city.
I caught two wild kings that went back, and ended up with three chromey pinks for the smoker. You know what pinks look like. All three were hens with sea lice. Caught about 20 or so pinks, but didn't manage to find another fish to my liking by then. They aren't godzilla yet, and they still tasted fine, but I kept catching bucks, and I'm stocking up on eggs. Besides, I didn't have any room on my card!
It was a lot of fun. Stopped by the green during slack tide on my way home, nothing doing, sounds like I missed the good push of fish at tide change. Oh well. Non-stop smoking until december! Bring on the coho!
