Had a great Labor Day weekend attending the Pend Oreille River Pike Slam tourney hosted by Mountain Muskies. Fishing was tough but we managed to get a few. A variety of lures were used but I can't recall what Jeremy and Mark K were using. I used a Johnson Silverminnow with a grub attached over very thick weedbeds. You can't see them but the northerns are there waiting to ambush prey drifting overhead. We then pushed on and fished a little deeper water and I hooked a healthy sized pike, got her to boatside and watched her head shake violently and the perch pattern shad rap came flying back. Heart breaking but I would rather that happen than nothing at all. A bit later and I picked up a smaller northern on the same Rapala shad rap. We all caught and lost a few but overall, fishing was still pretty good considering the rather warm water temps. I'm sure I'm leaving out tons of info, its been a long but good weekend. Thank you to Mark K for getting me over fish, you know the river well and its nice for a guy like me to only have to cast to catch fish. I would also like to thank the members of Mountain Muskies for running another awesome and fun tournament. Looking forward to fishing with you folks again and a big round of applause to Don for the trophies.
Again, sorry if I left out details,it was a long drive and I'm half asleep again
