Hit the Skykomish downstream from Rieter. Great day fishing - hooked 4 and landed 2 using some ancient mepps and rooster tails my dad left me. I also had a couple grabs from smaller fish (felt like 12'-16"), which I figured may have been trout or dollies - not sure. I had to walk a ways to get out of sight of the combat fishing zone. Probably would have caught more over there, but the solitude made up for it. I love that river, epsecially when the weather is changing. It's amazing how quickly the river's character changes to match the weather.

Caught the fish in this photo. Can anyone tell me what kind it is? I think it's a pink (I put it back). I did notice it was a wild fish. Not sure if all pinks are wild or whether there are also some pinks that are hatchery raised. Neither fish fought very hard - I was probably better geared up for a big coho or chinook than for a normal humpy. Maybe next time.

That's great to know - thanks. I thought it was a pink btw it fought, but I had some doubt. Nice to know there is a community of experts to keep me honest. I kind of wish I had kept that fish now - must check regs to see if wild cohos can be kept.

thanks for the report. Reiter is a beautiful part of the planet, isn't it. Just awesome. Cool you used your Dad's old stuff. What color design was it? We have some Mepps stuff from my wife's granddads that would be great to catch with...

Yes, it was special to fish with my dad's old spoons and lures. It made me feel connected to him. It was like having a common experience with him even though he is gone. The Mepps have not changed much over the years. I had luck with yellow rooster tails and some generic spoons that looked like antique pieces. rather than get fancy with the terminal gear, I just tried to stick those lures in the face of a fish who could be tempted/provoked into a strike. It's really fun when they are jumping all over the place and taunting you.
