It's been a while since I have posted a report on WaLakes because for a while I was legally blind from worsening cateracts and a glaucoma diagnosis. Undetered, I managed to make to the snake river with my buddy Chris Erlicher and his 13 year nephew Alex. Recent eye surgery on my right eye made it possible to actually see my bobber go down, instead of fishing by "Braile"! Lol For years I have been a jig fishing mentor to my fellow fisher buddies but this year I have met possibly the best, most knowelgable young salmon and steelhead fisherman I have ever known. My bro Chris is amazing with his uncanny ability to locate and catch monster steelhead and other salmonids. We hit a spot on the south bank of the snake that seemed to be swarming with migrating steelies and salmon. I had one 15 minute span within an hour of arriving where I had 3 solid takedowns that I missed! I finally hooked up with a 7lb hatchery keeper. The young Lad Alex broke the ice with a 13 pound keeper (pictured) and Chris put on a clinic by landing and releasing several wild metalheads over 10 pounds. He topped it all by masterfully fighting a beautiful 20 pound + chrome steelhead to end the day. I hopeto post that picture in a future report. 7 fish hooked and landed in just 5 hours on the river. Mind you the "Spot" seemed to be a key component away from the crowds. I am looking forward to more fishing with my new found "Mentor" Chris. Jiggy
