Although we had planned to do a weekend outing and either fish the upper Columbia for chinook or somewhere in the Grays Harbor area we had a last minute kid issue so we stayed closer to home and fished the Snohomish and the South fork of the Nooksack (see other report) this weekend.

Saturday morning at around 8:30-9:00 we launched the boat at Rotary Park and headed upstream to just below Snohomish. There were quite a few people already on the water and the areas that I would have set up and started trolling at were crowded so we looked for more solitude up river a bit further. At the chosen spot we deployed the usual river coho gear and started trolling. We ran a Dick Night off one side of the boat and a yellow and orange plug off the other. We used anise/krill scent on both offerings. The Dick Night was rigged on 5’ of 10 pound fluorocarbon with an 18” sliding dropper leading to a 1oz cannonball. The plug was run at 18 pulls. With the tidal flow and river current it is difficult to say just exactly our trolling speed was. I let the action of the Dick Night spoon determine the trolling speed. If it was fluttering correctly I did not pay any attention to the GPS speed. We saw lots of fish on the Humminbird but for the most part the fish were lock jawed. After fishing for an hour or so we hooked and landed this nice bright coho on a #1 frog pattern Dick Night spoon. I had promised that we would fish just until the weather window closed and as forecasted at 11:00 it started raining so we were done. I think that over all it was a slow morning on the lower river, we did not see any other fish caught and very few fish jumping.

As a note, on returning to the ramp vandals had been busy and the police were busy taking break-in reports (at least 4 incidents). Additionally somebody had hit our trailer and tore off one of the side guides. I understand that stuff happens but they did not leave a note or anything…

Nice looking fish! Sorry to hear about the vandals; they are always a concern. It's too bad people aren't more responsible or courteous these days, even to leave an 'I'm sorry' note.

Is Langus launch safer? It is more open, there are more people walking around and I suspect it is patrolled more. The parking area at Rotary is kind of hidden back in the trees.

Maybe find the vandals and use them for sturgeon bait or just maybe the police and game wardens could serve the people and protect our stuff

Nice fish and thanks for the report. I think Langus Park is far safer as far as vehicle prowls and theft goes simply because there is only one way off Smith Island so IF someone sees them and calls 911 there only one avenue of escape. It's also a very busy park (at least it was during pink season) so crooks are less likely to risk detection there. I also saw the Everett Park Ranger at the Langus launch on several occasions while I fished for pinks so it gets patrolled. Lastly, leave NOTHING in plain view in your vehicle and these vehicle prowlers will very likely move on to more lucrative prospects, vehicles with valuables in view. Rarely do we take a vehicle prowl report from someone who had nothing inside their vehicle to steal.

THAT BLOWS!!! The City are Brown-Coats when it comes to writing tickets....how about they take time to watch for tweekers!!!

Nice fish and nice report. Im not sure where Rotary park is. Is that the one off of lowel road? I would like to know more too why (afk) would think your trailer would be targeted. A good day on the water ruined by jerks. Ive been fishing for silvers but havent done any good.
