Duwamish River Report

Coho Salmon
All Day

I rate this a 3 because I ended up catching 1 Coho, 1 King, 1 Steelhead and 1 trout. But all in all it was a VERY slow day. Hit my spot on the Duwmish about 7:30am. Fished until 2:30pm. It rained off and on and was cloudy all day. Incoming tide I got a small (3#) dime bright coho hen on a red vibrex spinner w/brass blade. A just high tide I had a 10# king hen slam my RVRFSHR 50/50 spoon - she was really bright, but really beat up, think maybe she escaped the nets or something, put up a good fight though. Outgoing tide got me a 14" Steelhead, a 14" Rainbow trout and a 3" skulpin on eggs under a float. All fish were released to fight another day.
Didn't see a whole lot jumping, and the silvers I did see were all really small. Anyone else noticing the coho to be on the smaller side this season?

The smaller Coho are the only ones that fit through the nets!

Ya kzoo just brought up the same comment. I think the nets do have something to do with it although of course some fish will make it thru on the weekend removals. Wish I could fish the river daily to get a feel for how fast these fish (the ones getting thru on Saturday) move upriver at difft river flow levels and tides. The coho are in large part headed to Soos so would think the rains influence their pushing up but of course more fresh water in general probably gets them moving (like fro mdam release vs Soos). A lot more water right now flowing than when I was fishing for pinks.

Sounds like a really good day of fishing. It almost seems like a grand slam of sorts. Congrats.

Yeah, it was pretty cool to get so many different species with a variety of different methods!

Nice! So where does the Duwi end and the Green begin?

Montana_sam - that was just brought up and discussed in the river forum, the general consensus (and what I go by) is downstream of I405=Duwamish, upstream of I405=Green. Check out the forum discussion on it here: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/yaf_postst13684_Green-Duwamish-Transition-Question.aspx

I thought we were going to start seeing more video footage so we could get the play by play !!!!!

Hooked - Thanks for asking! There will be more. I tried a fixed mount for the camera for this outing. I got there, and forgot about setting it up until I hooked the king, then it was "damn - I did't get that on film!" I did get the trout and steelhead, but haven't had a chance to see the footage yet. If it is worth showing I will definately post it up (the way the bank was I am not sure if you can actually see anything but my back though). I never bothered with the pinks (except the underwater shots for Mike's video) figured it would have been kind of booring "oh another pink Woo Hoo! and another, and another, and another..."
