I invited a friend out to try his hand at salmon fishing. He had never done it before and really hadn't fished much since moving to WA.
We arrived at my favorite spot at 0815 to cloudy skies with the occassional rain shower. I quickly got him set up, put him in my favorite spot, and showed him where to cast. Despite yesterdays less than great fishing (still pretty good though) I had high hopes of at least getting him on some pinks, and with any luck, a silver. My demonstration cast got me a strike so I figured he'd have no problems. I moved a couple spots down to a less desireable location and started getting a few fish, but my friend was having no luck. He finally hooks one, but loses it. His second fish he almost has to shower, than the knot breaks... He's starting to get discouraged now since I keep brining in fish. The other people that were there leave at this point, so I can move down next to him and fish. I see that he's reeling a bit fast and also inform him that the fish aren't hitting the spinner as hard as he'd think. He takes this to heart and immediately starts getting into some pinks. At one point he was out fishing me and he appeared to be having a good time catching some WA salmon.
In 4 hours of fishing the two of us brought in somewhere near 30 pinks (my best guess since I've stopped counting), all released. No silvers today, but I did have one follow right to shore. My hot colors today were all gold, all silver, and silver and red.
