Went to Minter Creek for the first time to check the chum fishery. Found the creek pretty easily. There were about a dozen cars/trucks parked along the road. I thought this might be a good sign. Went down to the creek and walked to the mouth. Spoke to a couple of people and no one had seen any chums all day. The only fish I saw from the road to the mouth was flounder.
Went to the hatchery to check it out and saw one chum by the fish ladder. That was the only chum of the day. The hatchery had coho in the retention ponds and the workers there were harvesting eggs and fish sperm. That was cool to watch. The coho carcasses were put into containers for food banks. The coho were black and dark red.
Spoke to some locals and they said wait another week or two. Then they gave me directions to Hoodsport.
