Been busy, but went down to the Wallace River for a stroll and saw the usual Coho hiding in the same spots and spooked. The river was at its highest yet this year just recently, but now as usual is low and clear as of today (Tuesday). Worked a few holes while hiking along, and using my usual #3 Mepps Spinner with a 3/0 Gamakatsu Octopus Hook... My favorite spinner for everything. Today was a hiking day so it was with the small 6' Shakespeare brush beating rod, complimented with a 7 year old Shimano 2000 Reel that has brought in more fish then I could keep track of =)

Landed this fiesty active Hatchery buck Winter Run, within the first 5 casts, and shortly after lost a nice size Steelhead but couldn't keep it out of the water, and lost it as it was doing a tail dance. Bummer, it was a 15 or so pounder I was guessing... All in all, a good day for fishing and not a soul in sight. Good times ;)

Tight lines...

~ Jeff

glad to see some fish in...I may try this weekend along highway 2...I noticed you did not add weight or nothing onto the spinner..

Thanks guys ! luis, yeah the river has been quiet the last couple of days as the Salmon fisherman have moved on, so the holes are not as spooked now. The river also was very high which brought some fresh ones in, and now the water is low and clear leaving them pooled up =) I've always prefered just straight tying the Mepps Aglia to the line... Just like the action and feel of the lure as naked as possible as I work it through the water in the smaller streams I fish ;) This small buck was caught at 2:00 pm in the afternoon, and the other Steelhead I lost was hooked around 2:30 pm. So glad to see some Steelies finally creeping in !

Beautiful fish! Thanks for the reports. I use a Mepps 1 or 2 all the time for trout fishing in lakes. I'll have to get a Mepps 3 and try it in the rivers.
