OK, so the morning started out a little rough as my boat collided with another boat that was pulling plugs. What can I say, I'm out of practise. My apologies and fortunately no damage done.

Nate and I pounded the waters between the Blue Creek boat launch and the bottom of the drift and came away with three nice steelhead. I just couldn't get number 4 into the boat. We side-drifted with corkies and eggs and had a pretty nice day (collison not withstanding). Not red hot but not bad, lots of fish seen caught with the guides and a few by the bankies. The water flow was 9470 cfs which was an uptick from the past 3 days, but well below the 1,300 of 11-28. We did run down below blue creek and made a drift, but it was a bit too fast to get a comfortable drift, above Blue Creek was much better.

Anyway, I haven't fished the Cowlitz since I can't remember when, and it sure felt GREAT to catch a fish. Thanks for fishing with me Nate. BTW, by the end of the day Nate had his jetboat driving skills down. Nothing like putting a newby on a big, fast moving river with lots of boats all over the place and tell him to "drive" while I ran the kicker. He did a good job. Thumbs up.

Hahaha, not to mention how cruddy my driving was at first, and then realizing that steering the kicker is completely bassackwards from steering the jet as I'm trying to keep up with your fish, the end of the current and the bushes! I've got a ways to go before I'm even close to "out of practice". All in all though and awesome trip and I can't complain, the weather was perfect and the fish were cooperative! That big one put up a heckuva fight.

no Toni, sorry. This trip we realized filming was not going to work but we did figure out a way for a future trip, so hopefully the "Cow" will be featured soon.

Beautiful fish -- especially fishing from your "Bass Boat." Steering a boat in the winter water of the Cowlitz can be quite different than bass fishing on a quiet lake.

It was on it's way to spawn, but the meat is still top notch. I have no complaints, he fought like a champ on eight pound test. I don't think it was a summer run, he wasn't dark enough to have gotten there more than a month ago. Ate a bit of him that night and could really tell the difference between the other chromer that I got into.

Looks like one of the fish was a late returning summer run. dark. Great job. I have a question are you running a jet or just short shaft motors?

Nice fish! What colors of corky and yarn were you using? I am headed to the Cowlitz tomorrow and would like to start with something that has worked recently if it isn't a state secret. Thanks!

sorry for the slow response: my boat has a jet and I have a kicker for controlling the drfit or plugging. Colors we mainly used were in the pink/red/peach family.
