Got to the Fortson hole around 7:30. The place was a complete zoo. I walked around a little bit trying to find a hole, but there just too many people, and not enough river. Packed up and went downstream to c-post. Started off floating a pink spawn sack under a float and had 2 bobber downs within 10 mins. Felt fish both times, but they didn't stick. Third time bobber goes down and this one stuck. Got the fish on the rocks and its a nice bright hatchery buck. Tried for another hour with no more luck. Overall, it was a good day out on the river away from the combat fishing at Fortson.

Nice catch. Were you using skeined eggs with the spawn sacks? Normally I have used eggs that are fully developed and out of the skein, but never could catch a hen that was in that mature phase. I use to fish with spawn sacks in the east coast great lakes rivers all the time but switched to a bait loop style with chunks of skein, which I don't like doing because it gets so messy and you only get maybe six drifts out of them. What type of eggs were you using? Coho?

I know exactly what you mean. I started using spawn nets because there's less mess, and they are easier to deal with. Just fish them until they milk out and pop another one on the hook real quick and your fishing again. I actually just strip the eggs loose from the skein with a plastic spoon then put the loose eggs in a plastic bag and cure them. They were pink salmon eggs cured with 3 parts borax 2 parts sugar and 1 part salt.
