With all the reports the last few weeks, I decided to take a drive down there to see how the fishing was. Got to the river around 11AM, and ran into a fellow board member. Fished the corner hole by the big red gate, which was relativley vacant. 10 minutes into fishing, I got a float down on the edge of a riffle and hooked into my first steelhead, which promptly rolled the hook. As I was rebaiting, my mom who I brought along for her birthday, hooks up exactly where I got bit. After a short battle, I netted the fish, which was a recycled hen in pretty good shape. A few hours later with only a hand full of take downs, we worked our way up towards the dam, and then back towards our car. In between, I saw a few fish roll at a hole that was overlooked by other, so I pitched my float out to them. Before the float even settled, it dove under. The fish didn't put up much of a fight, it just hugged the bottom. After winching it off the bottom, I promptly netted and bonked a decent hatchery hen. This steelhead fishing turned out easier than I thought it would be. Only downside today was finding out my baitcaster I got for free couldn't freespool, so I had to manually pay out line.
