So, a friend and I headed to Harrison, Idaho to fish the Chain Lakes off the Coeur d'Alene river, on the 20-22 of April. Thought we might hit it before the thaw and the pike tourny the following weekend. Boy, were we wrong about the hard runoff; all three days that we fished it was warm, a little windy but otherwise sunny. Started out at first light and ended at dark. We threw everything in the tackle box from spoons to plastics, to jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinners, jigs with plastic trailers- no luck. Beautiful country but tough fishing. I have fished pike alot in Minnesota and was always able to figure it out but this last weekend was bar-none tough. Not sure how the pike tourny turned out but those that we conversed with were having a tough time; a few were taken by bait fishermen but that about it. Fear-not, we will return.
