Was able to sneak out for a few hours in the afternoon to wet a line. Looking at the graphs, the river was high, but not climbing (at the moment). On the drive out the weather was overcast and the temps hovered around 65. You could see some dark clouds here and there but nothing too threatening. I debated wearing my rain jacket, decided I better just in case.
I got to the river and started the hike into where I wanted to fish, it started sprinkling a little and I thought "good call on the jacket!"
I got to where I wanted to fish, there were a couple guys there already, said they had been there all day and hadn't seen a single fish - not good. I moved downstream a little ways and all of a sudden the skies opened up and it DUMPED! My 1st cast was into a completely white river, so frothed up from the rain I couldn't see my float. It was amazing BIG drops coming down in sheets. I fished as best I could casting between the wind gusts. Then came the lightening. 1st is was only distant thunder. I can deal with that. But then flashes. That was it, break time. I got back off the river a good distance and hunkered down. Another river-friend came over and we swapped lies for about 30 minutes until the cell passed. It was nice being able to take the time to actually talk to someone you see on the river all the time. Once it passed, it was like it never happened, NOW we can fish!
I jumped back out on the rock and fished for awhile with no action. I decided to go try a little spot downstream where I know they like to tuck into a little shelf. With the high water it was a little challenge to get to where I wanted safely but I got close enough to make the cast. 2nd cast - fish on!
Hot, dime-bright little cookie cutter hatchery hen. She put up a great fight as I made my way towards shore (no net) so I could tail her. Fished for a little longer, but knew I had plans for the evening, so I cleaned her and fished my way back to the truck. I passed a couple on the way back. Nobody I talked to had seen any fish but mine caught while they were there.
Water was a little cloudy - maybe 4' of vis. No pic this time, left the camera at home and gave the fish to my neighbor before I thought to take a pic.
