only had a couple hours to fish this afternoon. so i went close to home, ebey slough. i was hoping for a big cutt or dolly, or maybe a hatchery steelhead. i used a 1/8oz bell sinker, 3ft lead, and a size 10 bait hook with salmon roe. i was fishing just to the south side of highway 2 between lake stevens and everett. after a few casts i noticed tons and tons of salmon smolts swimming around, so i thought to myself there must be some predatory trout eating these fish...unfortunately i didnt have any of my lures with me, just gear drift roe..i got a dozen or so tiny taps, i assume alot of that was sculpins and salmon smolts during the first hour, then i started getting decent hits, 1 after another, but always was spit out, just before i could set the hook. then finally as i was realling in i noticed a very nice looking fish come chasing my roe in near shore, so i stopped reeling, and the fish hammered it. after a nice litte tustle i got it to shore, and realized i had a keeper cutt of 16" it was an absolutely gorgeous fish, nice and fat too..i left shortly after i caught it, due to having other priorities i needed to attend to. didnt slay them by no means, but it was a beautiful day, and i had a great time :) im sure if i learn up a bit on this spot ill have much better luck in the near future. sorry no pics my phone was dead :/
