Well we woke up late after a long day on the water yesterday and decided we were too late for Sockeye on the Skagit as planned. So we sat around the house, watched NW Wild Country and ate some breakfast before heading out to hit up the Sky.

First time in the Boat fishing the Sky, we launched at Sultan and ran up, messed around trying different drifts and following others examples till we figured out some spots we liked. Dad ran a corkie and shrimp to start, I started with a corkie and bubblegum worm. After awhile of nothing, dad switched to eggs and got one little cutthroat. Later I switched to my one of my trusty yarnies and after a few drifts it was FISH ON!!! The big chinook took me for a ride on all my light steelhead gear (I was using a 9'6" 4-10lb X Rodz with 8lb line) Great fight, and we got it too the boat with time for a pic. We let her go unharmed and happy. Headed back up and two more drifts it was fish on again! Another great nook, this one a tiny bit shorter, but brighter than a first. We let her go without a pic and got back to fishing.

Dad, who swears yarnies don't work, finally put one on after my success and it was fish on for him! He lost whatever the first fish was (It seemed to be fighting like a steelhead but we'll never know) and the second fish was a nice little mini nook. Fished for another hour or two after all the action with nothing else so we headed home after getting checked and chatting with the game warden at the ramp.

All in all it was a great day on the river, great weather, great fish, and had a lot of fun with Dad. And used way less gas than going to the Cowlitz or Skagit. I will definintely be fishing the Sky more often!
