I made a trip with my wife to Sequim to visit family. The girls all wanted to go to the Lavender festival, but with a feeling of losing my man privileges if I followed, I decided to head to the Calawah instead.

Camping in a tent always leaves me restless, so I was up at 4:00 am and decided to head off to Forks. After a couple stops for breakfast and gas and an hour drive, I arrived in Forks and headed to the river. Got on the river at about 6:30 am and started fishin.

Worked basically every jig that I had in my arsenal and had a couple bumps where I thought the bobber was going to be sucked down, but the fish had other ideas. Watched the guy just downstream from me have a bobber down and hook the fish, but just as it was getting to shore, the fish broke hime off and took his jig! Bummer. Moved down river a little ways and met one of the locals who was givin me a few tips on what to use. No joke, this guy pointed at a jig and said "use that." First cast after re-tying, bobber down. Fish on! Fishin with a 10'6 Shimano Ultra light rod and 6 lb test makes for a good fight on summer run. Fought the fish for about 10 mins, with solid runs and some acrobatics and just as he was about to slide into the net, he decided to make on last flip in the air and tossed the jig back at me.

After a short break and a few grumbles, I was back to fishing. The guy wanted me to drift my bobber right behind his through this stretch of river, to see what the fish were wanting. So I cast right behind his bobber and we started the float. 15 feet into the float, I'm staring up river at some fish rolling, and the guy taps me on the should and asks me if I was goin to hook the fish on the end of my line. Turns out, while I was daydreamin, my bobber had gone down! So I set the hook as fast as I could and got lucky to stick this fish! Fought her for about 10-12 mins, got her nice and tired, and slid her right into the net. Bonked her, tagged her, and got some water.

That was the last take down I had for the rest of the day, called it quits at about 2:00pm, thanked the nice guy for the tips and nettin my fish, and headed back to Sequim for a delicious fresh summer run dinner! Good times and great people made for an awesome day!

Little lower than the hatchery down around the corner of the main pool as you walk in. I was using an aero jig that was black with a little purple, we were hooking then on black marabou jigs, red aero jigs, and black and purple like the one I had.
