Hit snohomish at bob heirman wildlife preserve. took the nephew aka mini me. hes 8. Dropped some crawfish pots the day before. Salmon heads and guts work alot better than catfood. got 8 keepers and a bunch of lil ones. We both were pretty excited being the first time doin it.

We both were throwing spoons. he was using a red and yellow(red skins colors) I was using blue, green, silver(sea hawks colors) the nephew choice the colors. Glad he did. His lil pole brought in a small rain bow. let that go. really got the lil man exited.

Then came my turn. Though I had gotten snagged on something then all of a sudden line started spooling. fought it as it was running up and down river. Jumped a few times. My nephew was freaking out with exitement.finally after several minutes of fighting started to reel the fish in. had my nephew come and do the fun part. Should have seen how big his eyes got when he say the steelhead come in. Not sure if it was a native or not. the fin looked clipped but looked a lil more than a healed nub. Butin the end it didnt matter the fish spit the hook sitting in the shallow and swam away. (guess it wassick of me trying to decideits fate.

I went with a 5 because taking lil man bring back all the memories of fishing with my dad and hopefully ones lil man will never forget. cant find my camera cord need to post some pics of lil man.

Enjoyed your report! I LOVE Snoho/SKY-Valley fisheries! There is so much to offer. I bet your nephew will never forget that trip. J/C, if you were on-foot, how were you doing crawfish traps? You just hucking them out and having to swim if they got snagged up? Gotta love those "lobster of the valley"!

I forgot to mention. One crawfish pot went MIA. It was the only on that I did not hide the buoy under a rock so it was just floating for everyone to see.. Has my name and address on it So....

I was was just wading in to the edge of the rocks and throwing them in. holding the line so I could guide them down to the bottom. till I felt them hit and settle in. I built rectangle traps and put some fabric over the ramp side it acts like a sail keeping the trap upright and slowing descent to the bottom. Then hide the buoy under a few rocks. I only had one that didnt want to come up but just had to pull at a different angle.

Sounds interesting. Could ya snap a photo of this trap you are using? I used to snorkel the Pilchuck and just catch them using my fins and a fine-mesh net. Obviously the Snoho is a bit too murky to snorkel! The Foss, Tye and upper Sky have been awesome clarity though!

Sounds fun. I was thinking about trapping out there myself, good to know crayfish are around. As for the Buoys I don’t use tradition ones as the code is pretty vague here and easy to fulfill with something a little low key. I would expand but then it wouldn’t be low key.

ill try and get some pics of the pots soon.
hortus1010- Im just using part of an old buoy I picked up on the beach years ago. i cut in half and then half again. . the pot that went mia, when I throw it out i lost the line from so it was floating instead of hidden under some rocks like the other two. But oh well.
I haven't been able to find black 1/4" rope though. so I took white and half a$$ spray painted it black. anyone know were I could get some?
